Choosing the right landscape equipment

In order to choose the right landscape equipment for your property, you need to think carefully about your own particular needs.  You must consider the size of your plot, how it relates to the house itself, whether it is predominantly paved, or lawned, or an equal mixture of both and the kind of planting you intend to do.

A very large plot will necessitate you investing in some good quality, heavy-duty, landscape equipment, especially if it includes a large amount of grass.  You will need a powerful petrol-driven mower, probably the sit-on type and you may also need a small tractor for transporting clippings and other garden rubbish.  Other kinds of landscape equipment which may be useful would include a rotivator for digging the flowerbeds and a small chainsaw for keeping the larger trees under control.

On a smaller plot the types of landscape equipment you are likely to need would be on a more modest scale.  You could use an electric lawn mower, either of the hover, or the roller type.  You would be unlikely to need any other heavy mechanical landscape equipment, but could manage most of your landscaping tasks with ordinary hand tools.  However, some of the smaller electrical landscape equipment might come in handy and save you some time and effort, for example hedge trimmers.

If your garden has a large area which has been paved or laid to gravel it will generally require less maintenance than if it is mostly grass and flowerbeds, and you will not therefore need to invest in so much landscape equipment.  It will still need a certain amount of care though if it is to keep its good looks.  One useful piece of landscape equipment you may like to consider is a power washer.  This will remove grime and green algae from your paving stones and keep them looking pristine.

Whatever the size and type of plot you have there are some essential pieces of landscape equipment you are bound to need.  These are the basic garden tools which you will use to keep things neat and tidy and to prevent the land from reverting to a wilderness.  The most useful items will be a fork, which may be large or small, a spade, and a rake, though there are many other small items of landscape equipment which you may find to be invaluable.

Whatever the size and type of your plot of land, think carefully before investing in your landscape equipment, to ensure that what you get is appropriate to your individual needs.
